Economic expert: Much efforts must be exerted country’s debt exemption

The Economic Expert and Professor of Economics at the University of Khartoum Mohamed Al-Jack has stressed that the economic situation requires exertion of efforts by the state and society to mobilize the international community to exempt the country’s foreign debts, estimated at 50 billion dollars, in whole or in part, in accordance with the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries Initiative (HIPC). Professor Al-Jack referred, in a statement to SUNA, to the negative repercussions of these debts on the development process in the country as an obstacle to the country’s access to external funding. Professor Jack also called for the continuation of diplomatic efforts, at the official and public levels, to remove the name of the Sudan from the list of the terrorism- sponsoring countries with the total lifting of the US economic embargo so that the country can benefit from grants and loans on concessional terms to move the Sudan economy to the stage of sustainable stability.
